You’ve only a month to rollback to Windows 7 or 8 or 8.1 from Windows 10

So…did you not like Windows 10? Do not worry. You can downgrade, rollback to Windows 7 or 8 or 8.1 very easily By using the simple recovery option, but within a month only.

Yes, you have just a month to do so. If your Windows 10 installation is older than a month, then you can not downgrade Windows 10 to Windows 7/8/8.1. You are unable to do so because the “Windows.old” folder in your “C” drive gets deleted after a month.

You can check your “C” drive, you’ll find there a new folder named “Windows.old”. This folder contains the recovery data of your previous operating system which enables you to downgrade windows 10 to Windows 7/8/8.1.

Windows.old folder

The concept of folder “Windows.old” isn’t actually new. Microsoft provided this option even in its previous version of Windows. And this folder appears only if you had choose to upgrade your current OS to newer one, not the clean installation.

That means if you are using Windows 10 as a clean installation or dual-boot along with Windows 7/8/8.1, this downgrading option won’t apply for you. In that case you should follow the recommended tutorials below :

This option won’t work even if you had run the disk cleanup utility to clean up the older installation files. So if you aren’t yet sure about Windows 10 is right for you or not, do not run the disk cleanup utility. Try Windows 10 for some more days, when you become sure you can do it anytime until a month.

So, keep it in your mind if you think Windows 10 isn’t right for you and planning to downgrade, do it before your Windows 10 installation touches a month. Otherwise you won’t be able anymore to get your previous/original OS back (normally).

The only way still remains to get it back (in the case you had run the disk cleanup utility, or it’s been more than a month), you should be able to reinstall the version of Windows that came with your PC using fresh installation media and its product key.
